The Best Activities for Your First Psychedelic Trip

[ad_1]

With 2021 just behind us, many people may be thinking about trying new things this year. For instance, those already familiar with cannabis may want to take the next step with psychedelics. Whether you will be trying MDMA or LSD for the first time, there are a host of fun activities for your first trip that will make the experience memorable and enjoyable.

Put On A Visually Stimulating Movie

Psychedelics have the ability to create or enhance visuals. On top of that, the introspective and empathic attitudes that they encourage help us better connect with stories and characters. For these reasons, turning on visually stimulating movies might be a good idea. Movie-watching is also a comfortable and sedentary activity which might suit users who prefer a more chill vibe. Some cult favourites for psychedelics are Baraka and Samsara, both documentary-style films that do not feature a conventional narrative or any dialogue and voiceovers. Animation is also a great idea, especially stop-motion. You don’t have to stick to arthouse either; there are some pretty mainstream options out there such as Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse with its unique and colourful comic book-style of animation. I tend to like keeping it light, but if you’re feeling adventurous you can also check out some trippy horror movies.

Go Outside!

Many psychedelics have stimulating effects that sometimes give you heightened energy. As such, I always like going on hikes or walks downtown, in parks or on trails. Surrounding yourself with nature is a good idea, but if you have no way of getting to a greener part of town, I do find people-watching in the city fun as well. Another option is to visit a specific place such as a museum. This is one of my personal favourite activities while tripping as the sights are both aesthetically and intellectually stimulating. If you’re more partial to nature, I recommend going to a place that has any kind of body of water, especially if the day is warm and sunny and you can dip your feet in the water. Getting some fresh air outside can also help someone with nausea or feelings of claustrophobia that may come up when trying certain drugs for the first time.

Put On Some Music

The first time I tried MDMA was at a music festival, which is a happy cliche. Indeed, MDMA is a crowd favourite at raves and concerts, and for many people, their first time with this particular drug will be at events like these. Music and drugs share such a strong connection that researchers have even found scientific evidence for why music sounds so much better when you’re high. People tend to recommend listening to music that has no lyrics when you are tripping, but I think every kind of music has its merits. You can even challenge yourself by listening to genres or artists you normally avoid and see if being high changes anything!

Meditate

Some people like some quiet time when they’re tripping. Music can help you meditate, but you can take it a step further by following some proper meditation techniques. You can check out our guide here for some easy steps that you can follow. Meditation can be a really helpful activity for your first trip, especially during the come up phase when people usually experience some kind of disorientation. With that said, meditation is appropriate for any phase of a trip and can be combined with some of the activities above. You can put on some music or even try meditating outdoors in a suitable setting.

Tips for Your First Trip

These activities for your first trip should help keep you comfortable and stimulated. However, make sure to follow best practices so that you can have a good and safe time. Some considerations to keep in mind:

  • Be careful with large crowds. Being around too many unfamiliar faces may not be the best idea if you’re tripping for the first time.
  • Avoid unfamiliar environments. Tripping, especially for the first time, can be a disorienting experience.
  • Have a trip sitter. At least one sober person should be present to keep an eye on things.
  • Stay safe. Steer clear of dangerous scenarios. Have fun but be wise!
