Is Cannabis Good For you Part 4 – With @Christine Sclafani
What’s up Cannabis lovers??? I’m Christine Sclafani back with part 4 of, “Is Cannabis Good For Us?”
The public’s perception of cannabis is changing. Once seen as a “gateway drug,” it is now being embraced by the medical community and revered for its therapeutic benefits. From relieving pain to reducing nausea, cannabis has been shown to improve quality of life in many who use it. But what are the benefits of marijuana? While more research is needed on the long-term effects of this drug, here are some immediate health benefits that have been proven by extensive scientific research.
Sleep is essential to our health. It helps us recharge and recover, and we need it for our bodies to function properly. If we don’t get enough sleep, our immune systems are compromised and our brains and bodies aren’t as agile as they need to be. Not getting enough sleep can also have serious consequences, such as heart disease, obesity, memory lapses, depression, problems with learning, problems with attention and concentration, poor impulse control, and the list goes on.
Studies have shown that cannabis can make you sleepy, and this is especially beneficial for people that struggle with sleep, or for those dealing with insomnia. In fact, many people believe that cannabis helps them sleep better, and the evidence backs this up.
The psychoactive component in cannabis is THC, this takes effect around 90 minutes after consuming it, but studies have found sleep benefits as early as 30 minutes after consuming cannabis. This means it works quickly to benefit your body, increasing your chances of falling asleep.
Cannabis is also a diuretic, which means it causes your body to lose water. This results in feeling dehydrated, decreasing your appetite, and discomfort when you urinate. This isn’t as harmful as some of the other illicit drugs on the market, such as cocaine and methamphetamine, which can result in further dehydration and electrolyte loss.
Like caffeine, cannabis has plenty of other benefits, but none of them pertain to dehydration.
However, there is some concern that consuming too much THC or CBD can actually cause dehydration. If you have hydration issues, make sure to drink more water! If you’re looking to improve your sleep quality, it’s just one more reason why you should give cannabis a try. Cannabis has been shown to help alleviate muscle stiffness and spasms, and the incredible thing is that the effects last longer than painkillers.
